Some passengers on long haul flights might be susceptible to
develop potentially fatal deep vein thrombosis. Aircraft seat
designers have been researching means of reducing such risk by
modifying aircraft seat cushioning. Such improved cushion would
reduce pressure on the back of passengers' legs compared to
pressure exerted on the same body area by traditional design
cushions.
These foams offer high comfort and have excellent
flammability ratings. By combining the standard graphite foam
with a therapeutic LR type foam which is also rated to FAR
flammability standards, it has now been possible to design a
seat that exerts reduced pressure on the back of the legs of
passengers, thus reducing the exposure to the risk of DVT.

- This high density graphite
aircraft seat foam is suitable for heavy duty seating
application with high durability.
- The foam was designed to pass the
requirements of the USA’s Civil Aviation Authority flammability test.
The test requires the foam seat to be subjected to a Kerosene burner
fire for a period of 2 minutes.

To pass the test, the sample must not lose
more than 10% mass and the burn length must be less than 430mm.
In combination
with approved covers this foam passes the F.A.R. 25.853/App.F/Part
II kerosene burner test for aviation components |
